When did the Crusades take place? The Crusades took place from 1096-1272. During this time, a series of battles or "Crusades" took place. Some of these were: First-Ninth Crusade, and The Children's Crusade. During the First Crusade, Count Raymond IV of Toulouse lead the battle to free the Holy Lands. This was known as "The People's Crusade." Then, it was during the Third Crusade that Richard the Lionheart of England, Philip II of France, and Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I made a truce with Saladin. This battle in general accomplished much, but still fell short of it's priority to capture Jerusalem. Lastly, during the Ninth Crusade, King Louis IX failed to capture Tunis which lead to Prince Edward venturing to Acre to try and resolve conflicting ideas. This plan ultimately failed.
